Interview with Max
Trip: Powder Chase 2018
Tell us a little about yourself
I’m Max, 25 years old, and I live and work in Rotterdam. I work in the Event industry but I love being in the mountains and in the snow.
How much snowboard experience do you have?
Hard to say, if I have to express it in weeks it will be around 12-14 weeks. Ten weeks on the slopes and the rest off-piste. But the real love for pow I found in Canada. I lived in Vancouver for seven months and spent quite a few weekends riding Whistler mountain, which is world famous for its powder snow.
“I think this might be the best thing I have ever done. I’ll be back next year for sure!”
You are now on the Steez Powder Chase trip, what do you think of it?
It’s very hard to describe. I am looking for the word that means cool only then times 300! I think this might be the best thing I have ever done. Really though, this trip is amazing. This is my first Powderhunt and I had expectations but those but this exceeds all of those expectations. You’re all here with one goal and that is riding as much powder as possible and everything is done to make that possible.
Three days before departure Steez tells you where we’re going. This depends on where the most/best snow is. When we arrived at the resort, our powder guide Bas was already waiting for us. We immediately went up the mountain where we had a clear safety briefing. From there it was all about riding powder snow in the best way possible. The guide is very knowledgeable about where we are going and where it is safe, so you can really focus on snowboarding. I’ve never experienced anything like this before.
Steez also rides with a small group of max 6 people. This means that you don’t have wait on the others and you get the maximum out of your day. Also the guide can spend time watching your style and can coach everyone personally so you improve your snowboarding during the trip.
What is your favorite moment of the trip?
The best thing is riding powder. That is why we are here. I like the group too. I didn’t know the rest before we left but because of the small group and the way the trip is organized, we got to know each other very quickly. After 2 days it is as if I am on holiday with 5 friends with whom we can laugh and have a great time. I think that is because we are very much like-minded, we are all here to snowboard as much as possible and we all love to ride powder.
Why did you choose to do this tour with Steez?
Three things are very important when I go on a tour like this:
Before I booked the trip, I had contacted Steez. I asked about the people they work with and looked them up to see who these people are and learn about their professionalism and experience. An example of this is Bas Elhorst, our guide. Bas is a very experienced and qualified guide who is good at what he does and will always explain to you why he does certain things. Safety is always his number one priority and that is always the case during Steez’ trips. There are also three things required: a safety set, an ABS backpack, and a helmet. Without this, we won’t go down the mountain.
Besides that, price-quality is very important. I think Steez was in the same price range as the rest but they offer a little more quality. An example would be that we took a unplanned trip to the spa because we were soaking wet from riding in powder all day and Steez paid for the entry. It’s those little things that make a big difference I think. There is also such a big difference whether you are in a group with 10 or 6. That really makes the experience. As well the photos and a video made during the trip are very cool. A nice thing to bring home to show your friends and family and share on my social media of course. Overall, I had a blast and I’ll be back next year for sure!
