Interview with Amy
Trip: Splitboard level 1
Tell us a little about yourself
I’m Amy, 32 years old from Manchester and I love going on an adventure. I started snowboarding when I was 21 I think. So I am a late starter, but from the first moment, I loved it. Now I am taking it a little bit further, more adventurous, every year . That’s why I am here.
What do you think of the Splitboard level 1 trip?
Oh it’s great! You are going so much further than you are used to on so many levels. You are really expanding your boundaries.
I mean first of all, normally you are restricted to where ski lifts are going but split boarding or touring, opens up a whole new terrain to ride with a lot less people. Where the ski lift stops you continue. You just go into nature and it’s so beautiful and pure. But.. it’s also very intensive. If you are not used to this kind of exercise it can be quite tiring for the legs haha. You are really earning your turns as they say.
After a long day of amazing nature and the best descends you have ever experienced, you go and stay in a hut on the mountain where a home cooked meal and a cold beer are waiting for you. This weekend is really an adventure.
“Steez uses splitboarding to find the best descent, not just to do a beautiful hike up and then a quick way back down”
What is the highlight of your trip?
Reaching the summit of the mountain is the ultimate highlight. That’s what you’ve been working for all day. Hiking through the fresh snow carrying all this stuff. To then end up on top of a mountain with best view you can imagine. You stop there for lunch, catch your breath and prepare for a long run of untouched powder!
I am also really amazed by the mix of fun and safety. Safety is number one on this trip, but it doesn’t influence the fun. I think this because of the highly qualified guide who takes us on the mountain every day. He really knows the mountains and where to go so that we can ride the best powder lines there are.
Why did you choose to do this tour with Steez?
Well, the thought of Steez splitboarding trips is to use splitboarding to find the best descend, not to do a beautiful hike up and then just go home via the quickest way. I think this very important. Touring is fun, but I am doing this to find the best powder runs. Which is exactly what we did. This is really the best thing about split boarding.
